Dear Sir,
I am directed to state that the Executive Committee of the Council of Architecture considered the
reply/information submitted by your institution in response to the show cause issued by the Council to your
institution for reduction in intake in the 2-year full-time Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree course for
the academic session 2020-2021.
Accordingly, the Executive Committee, after considering your reply together with the information furnished,
has decided to fix the intake of your institution in the 2-year M.Arch. degree course as under:

The approval accorded by the Council to your institution is subject to compliance of the Council Norms
attached herewith as Annexure-A. The approval accorded to your institution shall be subject to appointment
of adequate Faculty of Architecture at your institution as per Council Norms, prior to commencement of
academic session 2020-2021.The institution shall be required to appoint faculty to fill up any vacancy, as
may be required, within 15 days in case of any faculty leaving the institution.
The following observation of the Council are mentioned below for your information and compliance:

The institution must appoint and maintain cadre-wise faculty for PG course as per Council Norms.
The institution shall be required to submit its compliance

The Council shall be at liberty to inspect the Institution at any point of time to assess the Minimum Standards
of Architectural Education prescribed by the Council and to ascertain that the institution is imparting
architectural course as per the Norms prescribed by the Council, from time to time. In case the institution is
found to be imparting deficient education during 2020-2021, the appropriate action shall be initiated against
it.

ANNEXURE —A
NORMS OF COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE FOR IMPARTING MARCH. COURSE
1.
Space & Building: The post graduate Department/Institution of Architecture should be located in a building /
campus to have a floor area of about 250 sq.m. per post graduate course per shift. The physical space should
include separate studios, computer centres, lecture rooms, faculty rooms and laboratories as required for the
post graduate course. It is desirable to provide hostel accommodation and residential accommodation for staff
and students in close proximity of the institutions. Hostel accommodation for students must be adequate for their
academic needs. This factor should be borne in mind in the design of hostel rooms and studios. The Institution
shall ensure that its building and premises and other spaces must be barrier free (i.e. disabled friendly).

Eligibility for Admission: Minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in a Bachelor of Architecture degree course or
equivalent course.
3.
Teaching Faculty: For an annual intake of 20 students, the institution offering post-graduate programmes shall
have a minimum core faculty consisting of 1 Professor,
2 Associate Professors and 2 Assistant Professors for
each post-graduate course along with visiting faculty as per COA Norms. The institution shall have a faculty
student ratio of 1:5.

Facilities & Staff: The institute shall have adequate administrative staff and supporting technical staff for each
of its laboratories, computer centres, library, which may be shared with U.G. courses in architecture of the
institution. The institutions shall furnish the details of computers, equipment, accommodation, training and other
facilities as detailed out in Appendix-C of Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Guidelines for Post-
Graduate Programme 2006 prescribed by the Council for Post Graduate Architectural Programmes to the Council
and the expert committee of the Council.
5.
Library: The institution must acquire a minimum of
100 titles relevant to the proposed PG course and
subsequently 50 titles be acquired annually and at least five journals be subscribed to (for each post-graduate
course).
6.
Computer Studio: The institution must create an exclusive P.G. Computer Lab with requisite software required
for each course. Steps should be initiated to have a minimum of 10 computers per P.C. Course in the first year
and additional 10 computers in the second year for each course. Computer centre shall have a server, networking
and internet facilities.
Workshop and Laboratory: The institution must create well equipped related workshop facilities and the existing
facilities be enhanced prior to commencement of academic session.
8.
Reservation & Non Availability of Sponsored Candidates: The reservation in seats for the M.Arch. degree
course may be followed as per the Central/State Government Policy. In case of non-availability of sponsored
candidates, the same can be clubbed with General category.
9.
The institution shall adhere to the Norms and Guidelines as prescribed by the Council in the Minimum Standards
of Architectural Education Guidelines for Post-Graduate Programme 2006 and as prescribed from time to time.
The institution shall also follow the instructions given by the Council of Architecture for improvement
/ up-
gradation and proper maintenance and submit periodic reports of action taken by the institution to the Council.
10.
The Institution shall initiate necessary steps to curb ragging in its premises and take appropriate action as
prescribed by competent authority in case of any such incident.
11.
The Institution shall ensure that women (staff, faculty or student) are protected against sexual harassment at the
institution and initiate necessary steps as prescribed by competent authority.
12.
All the circulars/ notices including the intake sanctioned by the Council to Institution(s) shall be displayed on the
Notice Board of the Institution for information of the students and faculty members.
